Prodigal Man

David Bell – The inspiration for “Prodigal Man” was to use texture, movement and color to depict the prodigal at his lowest moment. He has wasted his wealth. He is surrounded by swine. His misery brings him to the point he must return to ask his father’s forgiveness.

Kimberly Beane – The black sheep represents the sinner returning to the Lord. The white sheep symbolize those sinners who are saved. I chose to use sheep to convey this message because of the parable Jesus spoke in Luke 15 regarding the one lost sheep that the shepherd would leave his flock in order to find it.

Joe Barnett – I kept thinking of how the prodigal son must have felt as the reality of his sins came to him.

Joe Barnett – Our hand reaches for God. The prodigal son was broken by his sin and in that brokenness, he reached out to his father.
Waiting

Ritchie Baker – Through reading Luke 15:20, one sees how the father is waiting and looking down the road for the return of his son. That made me think about how God watched His Son when He died on the cross and then about the unconditional love that God has for us and how He longs and waits for us to return to Him. I used a technique to push paint with air, making the subject a little more interesting and allowing the eye to blend the colors together.
Embrace

Ritchie Baker – Based on Luke 15:20, the embracing of father and son once again reunited shows how their souls bond together through unconditional love. Reflecting on the relationship that God through Christ and the Holy Spirit has with a believer, I used a very time consuming technique that involved air to form, for a lack of a better word ‘splats’ to create this image. If you look real close, you may find the name of “Jesus” somewhere in the piece.

Ella Appleby – This painting, while exploring color, is also about the return of the prodigal son. I decided to show the father and son in an outline form rather than as a whole. The outlines leave the meaning of the action rather than focusing on the person. It does not matter who we are; we are all welcome. That is my message.
Journey
Art Medium: Oil on Canvas
Art Dimensions: .
Art Price: $NFS
Ella Appleby – This painting is the story of the journey that the prodigal son takes when he leaves his father. We are not shown the path or the happenings on that path, but the circles are representative of the circle of his journey. He and his father come together again somewhere off canvas. We are in that same journey, where we will come again to our Father in the future. We all follow the circle of life.

Angela Anderson – The egg outside the safety of the nest represents how clearly foolish it is to remove ourselves from the love and protection of our Father’s care.

Mary Andersen – While exploring Luke 15, I am reminded how important God and faith are to our very lives….finding our way or things lost can be accomplished with God, faith, and perseverence. My picture depicts the three parables of Luke 15 —- The father and the return of his lost son; the shepherd finding the lost sheep; the woman finding her lost coin.

Tara Ashley Allred – After reading Luke 15 in my art class, I was inspired by the forgiveness shown to the son by his father. The father welcomed his son back with the best robe, shoes for his feet, and a ring (which symbolizes a sign of celebration).
Prodigal of Grace

Gary Alexander – I have often read this story and my thoughts always went to the lost son or sheep or even the coin. “Prodigal” generally makes me think of our being wasteful of our resources. What about the dad or the shepherd? I looked up the word “prodigal” and learned it also can mean being generous or abundant. What if we all became “Prodigals of Grace”? Wouldn’t that be wonderful?

Melissa Aguiar – God honors man’s free will and choice to do right or wrong. God does not force us to love and be faithful to Him but when we choose Him, He’s there for us when we repent our sins.

B.J. Aguiar – The inspiration of this sculpture is the lifetime growth of the prodigal son, a lifetime symbolized by the long and steady growth of the tree.
