I Need…

Kailey Hogue – “…and he began to be in need.” On a recent mission trip to Africa, when surrounded by need, I began to think upon the story of the prodigal son. The father, a vessel of God’s unconditional loving kindness, met his son’s need with open arms. As I fed hungry children and put shoes on their bare feet, I had the opportunity to be the open vessel that God has called us all to be and share His loving kindness with those who were in need. This picture captures the need that I saw in every face.

The Prodigal Son

Dianne Hogue – The original design for this canvas included phrases from the whole chapter representing the elation of the father upon the return of his son. However, as the canvas progressed, the focus seemed to be the place in the story where the son is in utter despair, wishing he could even be fed the food that was given to the pigs. The canvas story stops at this point: Will the son choose reconciliation and feast of the soul or will he choose a distant land and famine? All of us at different points in our lives are left with choices and decisions, the greatest of which is have we been reconciled to the Father?

Lost and Found

Wanda Herman – Luke 15 speaks of several lost things and the importance on the story of finding them. Each time a picture is presented of searching and the rejoicing when the lost was found. We all have gone astray, but marvelously, God seeks us. The parable of the prodigal reminded me of my son. He was like the prodigal of the story. All the tings my husband and I had despised of his lifestyle faded away at the moment of his return and repentance. I know how the father of the prodigal felt. Our joy in our son is overwhelming and he has learned repentance and responsibility brings promises and privileges. We all like sheep have gone astray, but He found us.

Maggie Head – After reading the story of the prodigal, I wanted to take the feelings of the other son and personify his resentment and jealousy.

Terri Hayes – When I think of the prodigal son story from Luke, I always think about that moment when he is at his lowest point and thinks, “I want to go home.” He recognizes that even though he feels like his father will be mad he will still feed him.

A Father’s Love

Sue Harvey – As a parent, I imagined how a father must feel to lose a son and get him back, only to have the other son become angry with him, a very emotional and sad situation.

Rejoice with Me

Juliann Harvey – Luke 15 is one of my favorite biblical parables because it illustrates that heaven will be happier over one lost sinner who returns to God, than over ninety-nine others who have not strayed.

The Lost Sheep-Dog

Art Medium: Acrylic

Joyce Hartmann – Luke 15:6 says, “Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep [dog] which was lost.” Our dog disappeared for five weeks during an icy cold spell. We thought she had been shot. But one day, the voice of a kind stranger was on our telephone, telling us he’d seen her photo at the Laundromat, and she was 15 miles away at a gas rig site. We were so happy to see our lost stowaway, and this painting illustrates the hand of God that reached down to touch her.

Prodigal Pig-Nic

Joyce Hartmann – Luke 15:16-19 serve as the turning point for the prodigal son. When he was as low as he could get, eating husks with swine, he finally learned humility and appreciation for his family and returned to them. The pigs, of course, were happy to have the company.

Katie Harris – When the prodigal son returns home to the father, he is embraced with the same love that had been given him before. My painting shows the father’s unfailing love towards his son who ran away. The tenderness shown by the father when placing the robe over his pitiful son’s shoulders is a symbol of our Heavenly Father’s protection and provision over our lives even when we sin against Him. The father’s open arms represents our Heavenly Father’s arms and how they are always open even when we ourselves run astray. We are always God’s children, and I believe this represents that very statement

Broken

Lauren Hansen – My artwork portrays a son who is broken and withering and dying without hope, yet he finds renewal, love and hope upon seeing his father. This son’s failure to thrive and shame after lavish living is shown by both the ground (green for the health and fullness of life, brown as times begin to unravel and fall apart) and the tree in the background of my picture (which begins with full life and green leaves, and begins to brown and shed its leaves).

Have Mercy!

Clint Green – I wanted to express the loneliness and desolation that the prodigal son must have felt at his lowest point. The graffiti symbolizes a modern day runaway on the streets of a big city. I chose to make it black and white to further symbolize the feeling of depression.ery nation who all belong to the Father.

Roundtrip

Curtis Graves – The title of the piece is “Roundtrip.” Although there were no planes during the period of the piece, the viewer definitely gets the impression of someone returning home. It is a visual representation of the story of Luke 15 set in a more recent period in time. Thanks for your consideration and the opportunity to participate in this event.
