Rachel Young – Life is a journey. We never know what lies ahead; we just have to trust God with today and tomorrow. Sometimes the way looks pretty scary, but God always has a plan for our life. As Psalms 139 says, God knew us before we were born and He is not surprised by our thoughts, for He knows what they are before we think them. Just like the prodigal son, we often stray after our own desires, which can also leave us in the pig pen. No matter how dirty we get, we can always come back to our Heavenly Father who will welcome us back with open arms.

Kevin Witherspoon – The prodigal son knew he deserved no welcome home after leaving his father the way he did. However, his father forgave him and welcomed him with a passageway of love to return home. This sculpture represents a passageway – an opening for the possibility of passing from one side to the other through the opening in the sculpture. By forgiving his son and loving him, the father created a passageway for his son to move from his desertion of family to his returning home.

LeAnne Winters – The prodigal’s journey home was probably the most difficult of his whole life. He was a disappointment to himself and his family. He had failed in everything that was important in life. His journey had been through steep mountains and deep valleys and as he neared home, his fear increased even more. One of the hardest things for a prodigal to do is face his family. In a short time he would know the truth – that his parents had been watching for him, praying for him and never stopped loving him. Soon, the horrible pain they had all faced would turn to rejoicing!
