Larry Ziemski – The three Cali-lilies shown in the glass work represent the father and his two sons. The larger flower (representing the father) and one of the smaller flowers have identical features, other than size. Whereby, the other small flower is somewhat different, even though they are all from the same family of flowers. The different one represents the prodigal son.

Diane Ziemski – When I think of the prodigal son passage, I always begin thinking of him as having the loneliest existence in the world. I see in my mind’s eye a person who thinks he has no one to talk to or to turn to. However, the glory of this story is the ending where this same person receives the all encompassing love of his father, our Lord.

Rachel Young – Life is a journey. We never know what lies ahead; we just have to trust God with today and tomorrow. Sometimes the way looks pretty scary, but God always has a plan for our life. As Psalms 139 says, God knew us before we were born and He is not surprised by our thoughts, for He knows what they are before we think them. Just like the prodigal son, we often stray after our own desires, which can also leave us in the pig pen. No matter how dirty we get, we can always come back to our Heavenly Father who will welcome us back with open arms.

Kevin Witherspoon – The prodigal son knew he deserved no welcome home after leaving his father the way he did. However, his father forgave him and welcomed him with a passageway of love to return home. This sculpture represents a passageway – an opening for the possibility of passing from one side to the other through the opening in the sculpture. By forgiving his son and loving him, the father created a passageway for his son to move from his desertion of family to his returning home.

LeAnne Winters – The prodigal’s journey home was probably the most difficult of his whole life. He was a disappointment to himself and his family. He had failed in everything that was important in life. His journey had been through steep mountains and deep valleys and as he neared home, his fear increased even more. One of the hardest things for a prodigal to do is face his family. In a short time he would know the truth – that his parents had been watching for him, praying for him and never stopped loving him. Soon, the horrible pain they had all faced would turn to rejoicing!

Chase Wingfield – When I read through the parables Jesus spoke in Luke 15, I was impressed with the importance of the lost coin to the widow. I saw it perfectly in my head and wanted to show the joy and determination of the widow over one lost coin.

Carol Williams – The rose represents the unconditional love of God, the Father, the prodigal son’s father, and myself as a mother. Just as the fully bloomed rose stretches wide its petals and beckons us into its folds, God stands before us in all His majesty with arms opened wide waiting to bring us into the light. The earthly father runs to his son and throws his arms around him welcoming his back into the fold of the family, celebrating the fact that he was lost and is found. I as a mother stand here, unworthy but by the grace of God, with arms always ready to embrace my son no matter where his path takes him.
Scandalous Grace

Ann Williams – This is what happens when Christ-followers extend grace. The world and its value system scream, “That’s not fair!”, represented by the figure on the left in a sea of green, representing envy. It’s overpowered by yellows which are the lights of grace. The father showed the prodigal a form of grace the world can’t understand, thus the reason for the light overtaking the green. The figures on the right show the son humbly kneeling and the father bent over to embrace and restore. We don’t deserve salvation, nor can anything we do merit a right relationship with God. It can only be done by believing in Christ and accepting this marvelous scandalous thing called grace.
Extravagant Love

Ann Williams – The figures reaching to one another are the father and son who is adorned in a robe. I imagine a time during the celebration when all disappeared and the father and son reconnected, without words possibly, in an exchange of “I’m sorry” and “I forgive you my son. I love you.” The circle centering on the hands serves to portray this idea. The circular grid leads the eye away from this intimate moment back to the celebration and praise. This idea is reiterated by the upward lines and figures with raised hands. It also reminds me of what the celebration must be like among the angels when a person accepts God’s extravagant love and forgiveness through salvation.

Janet-Cecil Wilcox – This image, expressed on a small scale, portrays the exhilaration a parent finds when a child is lost in the maze of growing up. The prodigal son is a metaphor for lessons children learn while growing up. When they return to a parent and share their revelations, it is as if they have been reborn. Lessons of life have many stumbling blocks, but having faith brings us all back to what is important!

Gail Wilcox – My painting illustrates to me that our Heavenly Father’s doors are always open just waiting for us to choose to turn and walk toward Him.
