The Light of Men

Art Medium: Mixed media

Art Dimensions: 24×20

Art Price: $600

I created my submission to show Jesus looking lovingly at the world of men He died to save. In Him truly was and is our life and that life still is the only source of light for men. My model was a godly man who portrays Jesus in our local Passion play. Through his eyes, you can see Jesus’ love of our world.

First Aid

Art Medium: Mixed media

Art Dimensions: 18×36

Art Price: SOLD

Working on canvas using mixed media, my inspiration came from Isaiah 30:26.In keeping with the call to songwriters this year, inspiration also came from contemporary song that speak to our brokenness as humans and point us to the Light. The journey from darkness/brokenness to light/wholeness is depicted my movement out of the dark and into the healing properties of the Light. Healing of people, the nations, and creation is a result of YHWH Rapha, God who heals. Coming from a background in nursing, the concept of healing has been a theme throughout personal and vocational aspects of my own journey. It was only natural to me that the cross is represented as our “First Aid.

Through the ages, men, even the youngest among us, have adored the Christ child. The legend of the little drummer boy epitomizes the holiest of adoration, a child-like faith in the Savior. Simeon’s Song

Art Medium: Photography

Art Dimensions: 8×10

Art Price: $85

The incarnation of Jesus changed everything. Everyone. Forever. Simeon was waiting at the temple for the Messiah, when Mary and Joseph arrived with the baby Jesus. He knew upon seeing the child that everything had changed. Salvation was unveiled. A light was loosed for all people. A revelation was born to the Gentiles through the Christ child. I shot this picture of a dear old man, outside of a mosque in the Muslim country where I once lived. His eyes capture me every time I look at this photo. The gospel is for him. The light of the world came for him.

Lily of the Valley

Art Medium: Acrylic on canvas board

Art Dimensions: 24×36

Traditionally a symbol of new life and hope, the lily embodies the light that Christ’s birth brought to the world. That valley we all must traverse may be dark and dangerous, but the “Lily of the Valley, the bright and morning star” gives a beacon of hope to the traveler. The light that we cherish most at Christmas can be with us all the days of the year, all the years of our lives.

Perfect Beginning

Art Medium: Acrylic

Art Dimensions: 24×36

Art Price: $200

The humble start of being born in a stable is so unfit for a king and yet our God, who is above all things choose to start there.
I based my painting on the following scriptures: Psalm 188:22 “The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.” Col. 1:17 “He is before all things and in Him all things hold together.” The painting represents the cornerstone and how He touches all things. I used similar color in the two center squares showing the deity in Him, both in Heaven and on Earth.

Three Cords

Art Price: $225

A strand of three cords is not easily broken. In my marriage, I’ve seen how two people can’t do it alone. Jesus has been the light that keeps the darkness of the world out of our marriage.
Ecc 4:12 A cord of three strands is not easily broken.

Held by The Light

Art Medium:Mixed Media

Art Dimensions: 48 x 36 x 6

Art Price: $600

During a recent illness I had a vivid image of Christ holding me in the water. I didn’t know whether he was comforting me while I lived through the crisis or until death came. Sometimes he would take me deeper into the water or pour water over my head. I experienced his presence and his light in the midst of a dark storm. Isaiah said of this light, “Surely he has borne our grief and carried our sorrows” (Isaiah 53: 4). I have become more aware of others pain, whether an illness, financial crisis, loss of a loved one, addiction, waiting, or loneliness. My family, friends, doctors, therapists, students and strangers who continue pray for me, have been Christ’s light shining on me.

Let There Be Light-Love-Music

Art Medium: Photography

Art Dimensions: 25X20

Art Price: $200

The name of this piece of art is titled, Let There Be Light, Let There Be Love, Let There Be Music. I found that title in a song by the musician Andrew Peterson. In this song he talks about the struggle we have with making decisions and how often we rely on our own strength and not God’s. He talks about how we need to look into the darkness and as we are made in the image of God we can speak and say “let there be light”. I was greatly influenced also by Gen. 1:3. God spoke and there was light. This has always struck me but when I took this photo it made even more sense. There was nothing and from that God created EVERYTHING.
