Your Light Has Come
Art Medium: Acrylic and paper collage
Art Dimensions: 21.75″ X 27.75″
Art Price: $350
The painting illustrates Jesus who is the Light coming to one who is in a desperate situation. It is His light and love that finds us and empowers us to arise from desperation and radiate His glory. The scripture that inspired the painting is Isaiah 60:1 Amplified version. Arise [from the depression and prostration in which circumstances have kept you-rise to a new life]! Shine (be radiant with the glory of the Lord), for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you!
The Three Wise Men
Art Medium: Oil on Canvas
Art Dimensions: 40″ x 30″
Art Price: $450
This painting is the culmination of many hours of painting and musing spread over the past 3 years. I initially had only the three wise men, yet somehow, something seemed to be lacking or unfinished. Then when this year’s theme “Jesus the Light” was announced, I realized that the light was missing from the painting. Since all colors form light, I decided to overlay the wise men with rays of color from the star of Bethlehem. By following this light, the wise men found Jesus and Mary in the manger, presented Him with precious gifts, and following God’s directions, took a different route to their homeland in order to avoid Herod, who would have destroyed Jesus.
Arise, Shine
Art Medium: digital painting
Art Dimensions: 11 x 14
Art Price: $200
This is my mother, long since passed, when she was the tender age of five. This portrait has always represented an innocence, much like the child-like faith represented in Mark 10:14-15. Mom seems to exude and respond to the very light spoken of in Isaiah 60:1 – “Arise, shine, for your light has come…” This portrait is digitally created from an old sepia toned photograph, painted with brilliant colors imagined in my mind’s eye. The light of Christ is drawing Mom to stand front and center as if answering the call, “Here am I, send me…”
Resurrection Light
Art Medium: acrylic on canvas
Art Dimensions: 24 x 36
Art Price: $550
This work suggests, in an expressionistic way, the power of Jesus’ resurrection. I utilized the palette knife lends itself to creating a sincere, hard edge, dynamic and powerful look that a brush would have to work hard to produce. The iridescence focal area pigments denote the source of divine energy that rose Jesus and allowed him to roll away the tomb’s seal. The multitude of hues radiating from and rendering the Jesus image connotes the presence of His divine light in every aspect of this world. The visual depiction of Jesus was influenced by processes suggested by the controversial “Shroud of Turin”.
Warming Light
Art Medium: chalk pastels
Art Dimensions: 14×14
Art Price: $45
My favorite form of light is sunlight–I love its warmth, purity, and beauty. I chose to draw the sunlight shining through the underside of leaves because to me, God is that kind of light–a healing light that illuminates things and makes them beautiful. God is essential to life: we desperately need Jesus in our lives like plants need sunlight. The warmth and hope and purpose Jesus brings to our life penetrates like the sun, bringing light and healing to the darkest places. We just need to look up, and embrace the loving savior who is there waiting to light up our lives.
Running Free
Art Medium: Acrylic on photograph
Art Dimensions: 10×8
Art Price: SOLD
When I was contemplating what to make to represent “Jesus, the light” the song “Into Marvelous Light” came to mind. Sometimes in this world we can feel overwhelmed by sin, guilt, and doubt. However, because of the salvation and hope that Jesus brings, we can put the darkness that we come from behind us. This piece represents a girl running to God in complete reverence and surrender to the One who loves us most.
Doorway to Light
Art Medium: pastels
Art Dimensions: 14×12.5
Art Price: SOLD
Matthew 7:7-8, John 8:34, Romans 6:23, Hebrews 12:1, 2 Samuel 22:29 and Psalms 27:1 all encapsulate the message of my piece of artwork. This picture tells the story of a person reaching from the depths of darkness. As if this is their last hope, their fingers grasp the blood stained doorknob. As they reach upward sin entangles and wraps around their arm pulling them downward. Satan’s tries to keep us from reaching out to Christ. As the door is opened the light and love of Christ burst forth and overtakes sin. Jesus is the light and He will prevail. The leaves hanging over the door symbolize the growth and new life that has been revealed to this new believer.
Sinner’s Hand
Art Medium: Graphite
Art Dimensions: 9×12
Art Price: $40
What inspired me to draw my hand was that I wanted to represent a dirty sinful hand reaching toward the light which is God taking over evil or purifying the hand. By showing Jesus is the light and the truth and He can help anyone. I wanted my art to be dramatic by extreme detail to the hand and shading. I was trying to make my hand appear to be coming from the dark then striving toward the light of the good of life, the heart of life. I used graphite to achieve the greytones because everything we do in life needs some grey but when it comes to your faith, it’s pretty black and white, wrong or right.
From the depths of the pit
Art Medium: acrylic and glass
Art Dimensions: 16×20
Art Price: $65
“I called on your name, O Lord, from the depths of the pit. You heard my plea…You came near when I called you and you said, ‘Do not fear.’” –Lamentations 3:55-57 This verse (one of my favorites) and the vision of someone kneeling, broken, helpless, weak surrounded by the darkness of “the pit” came to mind when considering the theme. It is only the hand of Jesus that emits pure light, that can save us. With the Christmas season approaching, I was reminded of my favorite part of the birth of Christ when the shepherds are surrounded by angels. In my painting, I wanted to depict a lost and desperate shepherd pleading for the rescue from a savior.
Streetlight
Art Medium: Acrylic paint on photograph
Art Dimensions: 12×9
Art Price: SOLD
Every morning while I’m running I run past this picture. To me it really symbolizes how when the world is in total darkness, Jesus is there for me to give me light and help me through.
Streams of Glory
Art Medium: Stained Glass
Art Dimensions: 24×19
Art Price: SOLD
When I first heard about this year’s theme, immediately this pattern came to mind…what better medium for light than glass? The star bevel of course reminds us of the star of Bethlehem, representing Jesus’ birth, and the four corners of the star emanate in a way that reminds me of the cross, which marks the end of Jesus’ earthly life. Streaky glass, waterglass, and clear cathedral glass in varying hues of golden amber, as well as seedy clear textured glass make up the star’s rays. From each corner I used the same color glass to emphasize the cross effect.
Exaltation
Art Medium: chalk pastels
Art Dimensions: 9.75×9
Art Price: $40
Inspired by creation, this piece represents God’s constant involvement in our lives and our world. He is the source of our light and our joy.
Christ…The Center of Our Lives
Art Medium: Oils on Canvas
Art Dimensions: 30″ x 30″
Art Price: $110
My painting depicts Christ as the Light of my life in a troubled world. He has been the Center for me through the good times and bad, serving as the anchor to keep me centered. It represents what He does for us each day, reminding us how grateful we should be, by sharing the written word and His love with others. He is the Light and the Center for us.
Let There Be Light
Art Medium: Photography
Art Dimensions: 16 x 20
Art Price: $300
Genesis 1:3, God said let there be light and there was light, and God separated the light from the darkness. This photograph of fireworks conveys what I think it must have been like when God separated the light from the darkness. In an explosion of light , color and movement God caused the light to come forth in a brilliance we can only imagine.
God illumines my darkness
Art Medium: Acrylic on canvas
Art Dimensions: 24″ x 36″
Art Price: SOLD
The inspiration for this painting is the passage Matt. 5:14&15 which says, “You are the light of the world, a city on a hill cannot be hidden, nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lamp stand, it gives light to all who are in the house.” Another passage, Ps. 119:105, talks about how God’s word is “a lamp to my feet and a light to my path,” so I used other scriptures to create a background on which the candelabra casts its light and shadow. The symbolism of the scriptures being illumined by the light is meant to be a reminder of Christ in our lives. My hope is that this painting will be an encouragement and a clear illustration of our need for the Light.
