All life requires light. Physical/natural life requires SUN-light, spiritual life requires SON-light. In the introduction to his gospel, the apostle John wrote (1:4), “in Him was life, and the life was the light of men.”
Jesus’ own words, “…I am the light of the world…” (John 8:12) and “…I am the way…the truth…the life…no man comes to the Father but through Me” (John 14:6) affirmed that fact.

Christ came to earth for us, from this eternal glory, to give us His life and to invite us into eternity with Him. He is ever pursuant and ever ready to shine His light into our darkest lies. When I think, “Jesus is the light,” I think about nature and how God is so powerful and creative in how He designed His world. The Northern Lights, which are found in parts of Alaska, are some of the most beautiful design/show of lights in the entire world. I believe God shows how truly beautiful He is through nature. I picked the Northern Lights to draw because it shows that God is the light of the world, and even on a dark cold Alaskan night He will light up the sky with the most beautiful attractive colors seen by any human eye.

The Color of God’s Light

I tried to depict our Father’s hands, reaching out into the light. There are thousands of artists, through the ages, that have tried to re-create that wonderful light. I can only try to do this and feel so humbled every time I see a sunrise or sunset. It is impossible to paint a perfect picture of God’s creation, but it is more important to paint our impression of it.
