Pat Larsen – The scene depicts Jonah moments after he was thrown from the boat. God’s angry sea is calming down but Jonah’s contorted body suggests the agitation that is present within his heart. With his head above water, he watches the boat sail away and brings one hand forward to acknowledge the Lord’s presence.
Jonah’s Journey… And Ours

Lynne Lara – I wanted to incorporate the many different elements of Jonah’s journey as well as some symbolic ones. In Hebrew, the name Jonah means “dove.” This spoke volumes to me spiritually and I knew it was what I wanted to use to show God’s glory and love for us. The sky is in two designs because I believe we should never forget God’s love for us in serenity or conflict.
From the Midst

Patricia Langewis – “From the Midst” was inspired by the passage “But the Lord sent a large fish that swallowed Jonah.” I tried to imagine a large fish surfacing from the depths of the ocean (“from the midst of the helter world”).

Diana Lancaster – My inspiration was the power of prayer. The intent was to create a mandela containing the star of David to contemplate the mercy of God. Jonah is depicted nude and praying, representing his fear and vulnerability inside the fish’s belly. The hands of God signify faith
and God’s mercy.
Fish City
Art Medium: Mixed Media
Art Dimensions: .
Art Price: $NFS
Diana Lancaster – I was inspired to create Fish City to explore Jonah’s experience in Nineveh. The beauty of the fish and the city are contrasted to the dark thoughts and anger Jonah was feeling. The light emanating from the fish serves as a reminder of his own salvation.

Joanne Kunath – Jonah’s decision to disobey God’s commandment led him on a pathway of confusion. Often in my life, I choose a road which leaves me feeling lost, guilty, and ashamed. My painting represents the l
ayers of confusion that life takes when we walk away from God’s COMMANDMENTS, WORSHIP, AND HIS GUIDING LIGHT.

Carrie Kroger – When I learned that the theme this year was Jonah, I immediately had a vision of what I wanted to paint. I envisioned Jonah walking toward Nineveh after being spit out by the whale. The flames and dark sky represent how the people of the city were consumed by wickedness and hate and how they were in peril and anguish. The glow around Jonah represents the Spirit of God empowering him to enter the city.
The Choice

Amanda Kroger – When God forgave the wicked people in Nineveh, Jonah was angry and bitter. He chose to live in the darkness with his anger instead of rejoicing with the Ninevites. My painting depicts the choice that we all face at one time or another: Will we celebrate with the forgiven and live in the light, or will we sit, brooding in the darkness, letting self-pity and hatred keep us from the forgiveness God also promises us?
The Whale
Art Medium: Tempra
Art Dimensions: .
Art Price: $NFS
Hayden Knabe – My piece, “The Whale,” represents the whale that swallowed Jonah. Jonah doubted God and was thrown into a stormy sea. The sea is also shown in my piece. The sun shows how the sea calms after he was thrown into it. This is a powerful piece about “trust and courage.”
Moonlight
Art Medium: Acrylic Paint
Art Dimensions: .
Art Price: $NFS
Sangjeong Kim – My painting portrays a purple moonlight with a face in the sea. The face represents God’s watchful eye on Jonah who is seemingly lost at sea. The expression on His face represents the grief God feels over Jonah’s disobedience.
Mother’s Love

Morgan Kelly – In my drawing, I used the situation of a child, who did something her mother told her not to do, being consoled by her mother. These figures are symbolic of God’s love for us even when we do something wrong. God was forgiving of the Ninevites and He wanted Jonah to show them the way.
Jonah Foretelling
Art Medium: Acrylic & Collage on Canvas

Jacquelyn Kaucher – Jonah’s three days in the whale foretells Christ’s three days in the tomb. The mast of the boat represents the empty cross. The empty tomb appears at the top left. The red and the water remind us of Jesus’ blood spilt for us.
Jonah Caught Up

Jonah Is Heard

Sarah Johnson – I thought of the despair and hopelessness Jonah felt as he lay in the fish’s belly. His only hope – as is our – was a rescue from his God. Although the fish was used as a discipling tool, the fish’s eye serves as a focusing entry to Jonah.
“He reached down and took hold of me. He rescued me out of deep waters.” Psalm 18:16
Under the Vine
Art Medium: Watercolor and Pen and Ink

Sarah Johnson – Jonah was angry at God’s grace shown to the Ninevites. God taught Jonah a lesson by providing a worm to eat the gourd vine that He had provided for shelter.
