Jane Cazort – God created earth and everything on it for a purpose. As I watch spring emerge, I am reminded that even I was created for a purpose. Most of us go through life in quiet anonymity not knowing just why we were created; but God in His great wisdom, gave us a book of instructions and examples by which to live. While most of us will never experience a “Jonah” moment, God, from the beginning of time, created within us exactly what He meant for us to be. Carpe diem!
Confront Your Fears

Jordan Butler – Jonah has been forgiven by God but again he runs to the desert before deciding to preach to Nineveh. Jonah has to overcome and confront his fears of failure before he goes to Nineveh.
Jonah and the Vine
Art Medium: Cedar and Alabaster

Robby Burton – When I heard what the theme was going to be for the show this year, I was able to reflect more on the book of Jonah and came up with my sculpture. It is made from a cedar bowl I turned and then cut and shaped it into a plant. I then made a small alabaster figure to depict Jonah. I wanted to depict Jonah in a contemplative type of a pose, thinking about what he is supposed to do in his mission to cry repentance to the people on Nineveh.
Cast into the Deep
Art Medium: Acrylic on Canvas

Nina Burke – “Cast into the Deep” was painted with the idea of the darkness and despair that we sometimes face in life. During these times, we cry out to the Lord and just like Jonah, God hears our voices. “When my soul fainted within me I remembered the Lord, and my prayer came in unto Thee, into Thine holy temple.” I wanted this painting to depict the feeling of turmoil when we turn away from God.
Breaking the Surface
Art Medium: Acrylic on Canvas
Art Dimensions: .
Art Price: $NFS
Nina Burke – I think of the whale (a great fish) coming from the depths and “breaking the surface” to swallow Jonah into the deep so that Jonah could search and find his own depths. I know, as an artist, I am just breaking the surface when I consider what God intended for me. Life, as with painting, is a continual breaking of the surface just as with Jonah and the great fish. We are all continually searching and learning.
God’s Hand
Art Medium: Oil Paint

Callie Buchholtz – I wanted to portray how God always had His hand on Jonah. God had a plan for Jonah, and it was not for him to die in the waves of the storm. God called up a fish to carry Jonah to shore. God never left Jonah, no matter how much Jonah wanted to leave God.
The Sign of Jonah
Art Medium: Fabric
Art Dimensions: .
Art Price: $NFS
Anne Bryant – After discussing “The Sign of Jonah” in a class I attended, I decided to focus on Jonah 1:17, “But the Lord provided a great fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was inside the fish three days and three nights.”

Neilann Brown – The prayer of Jonah fills the background, entwined in the chaotic lines that symbolize Jonah’s turmoil. The lines come together to form the whale, a symbol representing the power of God. God’s will is done even when we don’t cooperate. He brings order from our chaos.

Neilann Brown – Like Jonah, many of us ignore or run from God, eventually finding ourselves in an undesirable place. Surrounded by the carcasses of our desires, we reach out to God in despair. We find that in spite of everything we’ve done wrong, He is there, we may be forgiven, and His will is done.

Shelby Bradford – My inspiration came from looking at mosaics because I really like the technique and feel of them.
Jonah Running from God
Art Medium: Charcoal
Art Dimensions: .
Art Price: $NFS
Brittany Boyd – God watches from above while Jonah runs from the work God wants him to do. Jonah would rather die than go to that wicked city. The spirits in the sky also form a corpse like face.
Jonah Drowning
Art Medium: Acrylic Paint
Art Dimensions: .
Art Price: $NFS
Brittany Boyd – I read the book of Jonah and got out my charcoal and paints. I first painted the vision of Jonah under the water and then went on to draw the scene I envisioned of Jonah running from God. I pictured Jonah floating under the sea, not fighting to live but unknowlingly waiting to be swallowed up.
God Appointed
Art Medium: Acrylic Pain

Elizabeth Bostwick – In the conclusion of Jonah, people generally focus on Jonah’s attitude towards God’s interaction with the Ninevites. However, the passage also emphasizes God’s sovereignty. Regardless of our emotions or actions, God remains in control, governing our circumstances with intention and purpose. The sun in the painting emphasizes God’s providence; our temporal concerns/reactions (represented by the tree) are merely silhouetted against God’s sovereignty.
City in the Whale
Art Medium: Mixed Media
Art Dimensions: .
Art Price: $NFS
Jenny Bolts – This painting is a picture of a boat inside of the mouth of a whale. In the background is the image of a city with fire around it. In the boat is Jonah. The background is black because Jonah did not follow God’s wishes.
Sign Room
Art Medium: Oil, Charcoal, Color Pencil and Pen

Kirsten Blanchat – For me this piece reflects the solitude of our decisions before God and to remember that to live today in the power of Christ’s resurrection.
