Joslyn Hebda – At first, I didn’t really want to do this piece. It was just another assignment, but then, I thought about it, and wondered how cool this could be. I knew I wanted to make a montage, and after I picked the subject of judgment, I started to get to work. I took pictures of parts of celebrities because Adam and Eve are the start of us all, so we all should make them up. And I chose black watercolors for the background because it seemed to symbolize the absolute horrible feelings that must have been going through the two.

Courtney Hays – As I was working on this particular piece, I was thinking of the verses in Genesis that tell us of Eve being created from Adam’s rib and how she was tempted by the serpent in the Garden of Eden. I drew Eve being pregnant with the world as she was accepting the apple from Satan.
Deception
Art Medium: Colored Pencils

Lauren Hansen – When I think of Genesis 3:4 & 5, I think of deception. The serpent lied to Eve and deceived her. The fruit was deceptive as well. It looked so pleasant, yet brought only shame, as eating of it had been forbidden by God.
The Tree of Knowledge After the Fall

Raouf J. Halaby – This was inspired by two things. From my Palestinian Christian roots, I drew on the image and form of the olive tree and the abundance of gifts it provides in the form of sustenance, medicinal and utilitarian uses. From my study of art, I drew on the bold and powerful impasto strokes of Vincent Van Gogh. Stark yet bold, scarred yet dignified, cored out yet complete, my perception of the tree of knowledge is that of a timeless reminder of what man should aspire for when adversity calls unexpectedly. Stripped of leaves, the braches remain bold and beautiful; scarred and blemished, the trunk is steadfastly anchored to the ground in a bold gesture of poise & dignity.
Male and Female Created He Them: And They Were One

Raouf J. Halaby – Out of Adam’s rib God, in His great and infinite wisdom, created Eve. Delicate and compassionate, Eve was to be Adam’s companion, partner, and comforter. More robust and less expressive, Adam was to be Eve’s partner, protector and provider. In their opposites, man and woman complement each other to affirm the fact that both were created in His Image. For just as man and woman are united through their love and commitment to each other, so are they united as one in their love of He who made them. God is the source of faith, love and commitment.
After Darkness Created He the Sun and the Moon

Raouf J. Halaby – The Sun and the Moon appear at opposite times of the 24 hour cycle. Without the former there would be no dawn, dew, birds singing, or plants germinating and reaching into the heavens. The latter, on the other hand, in its multi-shaped lunar manifestations, provides an atmosphere for personal reflection and intimate expressions which are realized at break of day. The first is active, powerful, life giving and life sustaining; the latter is passive, sublime, and lends its self to introspective interludes that balance the ebb and flow of life. Of the two, the Sun, like its Creator, is the constant which provides hope, warmth and love. And what is life without His Love?
Axis Mundi
Art Medium: Paper

Jessica Hair – Axis Mundi is Mayan for World Tree, the axis of the earth. The World Tree or Tree of Life is representational of Human instincts, temptations and needs. The Tree of Life rests between Man and Woman, perched upon each world as its rulers. Each root of the tree spreads to form the land masses in each world. Its branches hover out over woman as she gazes back into it. The tree reaches out to man as he reaches back to it. Is man reaching out of temptation or need? Furthermore, is the Tree of Life, human instincts, temptations and needs, uniting man and woman into one, or dividing them as well as the worlds they rule?

Caitlin Hagans – The verse in the beginning of Genesis says that God’s spirit was hovering above the waters seemed to me a very beautiful statement, and I thought that was an interesting image, therefore I decided to draw something having to do with the ocean, and although I didn’t draw “God’s spirit” it is a nice thought that since He is everywhere, perhaps He can be seen throughout the sea as well!

Ilyssa Grisham – My inspiration was just how I thought the world looked when God created/was creating it. I thought it would have just been a lot of colors mixed and combined
Flaming Sword
Art Medium: Digital Photography

Robert William Green – The photograph was inspired on a fall afternoon as my family explored the gardens of Little Rock’s Mount Holly Cemetery. These “last statements” of men and women whose strong faith is in a loving God show that their spirits live on. The cold dark statue of this towering Guardian Angel shines brightly as if guarding the souls of God’s people until the day Christ returns and they are called by name to meet Him in the clouds of glory. Genesis 3:24 . . . “Cherubim and a “flaming sword” turned every way to keep the way of the tree of life.” Notice the inscription, “Trust in the Lord.” This is a picture of God’s judgment a picture of God’s hope.
God’s Good Order

Marlene Gremillion – I feel God created the heavens and the earth much like an artist creates an abstract piece enjoying all the many materials He could gather together creating order out of chaos. When I create an abstract painting I work from my feelings, love of materials, listening and watching the disorder and reacting eventually, pulling it all together as one. I look at the piece and say, “Yes, it is good and I am pleased with the work”. Many of my pieces have earthly feeling with shapes, textures, and color, all mixed together forming one.
The Beginnings of Creation

Sandra Graves – The words from Genesis seem to cry for powerful visual images. I show the intensity and drama of creation with rich dark colors. The image of God brooding over dark vapors likens God’s Spirit to a bird caring for its young. Accordingly, wing-like and feathered abstractions show masterful strength while a focused and concise light shines from the center of the canvas.
Angel with Flaming Sword Guarding Entrance to Tree of Life
Art Medium: Mixed media

Art Price: $NFS
Sandra Graves – This icon-like image is painted on an 86 year old wooden door found in our 1920’s Craftsman home. (In 1920, these small doors covered a niche in the wall where the telephone was kept.) The use of a wooden door seemed appropriate for a support for the depiction of an angel guarding the entrance to the Tree of Life.

Matthew Gorham – Many times I sit and meditate on creation. I often ask myself, what it was like before the beginning. Why did God choose me to occupy this beautiful creation we call earth? Why did he choose you? I long for the day when I am able to sit with our Lord and discuss these questions. I believe, when God said, “let there be light” an orchestra of sound and color filled the heavens, and this is how I chose to portray that magical day.
