Sandra Newberg – My inspiration for “Beginnings” was from one of my Mother’s poems. She wrote about looking to the heavens to the beautiful evening star. Through all the ages and forever more this beautiful star still shines. It shines over the hopes and desired – the joys and sorrows of man. It’s just another of God’s miracles – ever majestic, ever noble, ever shining over man.

Mary Lynn Nelson – I am so inspired by color and I knew that I wanted this piece of art to reflect what joy God must have had as he flung the colors into being in the expanse of the sky and the deep of the sea, to create the birds of the air and the living creatures of the waters.

Mary Lynn Nelson – I thought of God’s creation of the earth, the sky, the mountains and the land, and His continuing plan for my generation, my children’s and my grandchildren’s generations and the hope that gives us.

Jessica Mustard – Whenever I read Genesis, creation just stuck out in my head—how God said “Let there be light” and let there be this and that and there it was. It was kind of like whatever came out of God’s mouth came about. So when drawing this, I drew a smooth swirl to represent his breath as he spoke. Then, I drew the earth in the center of the swirl not totally transformed but mostly because it was forming as God was saying it.
Let There Be Light

Gerri Much – As I was contemplating how to depict on paper the beginnings of creation, I felt I wanted to demonstrate just how awesome it must have looked when God commanded: “Let There Be Light”. I chose these textures to show the depth of the earth’s mountains, valleys and beautiful vistas we all love and enjoy. I feel through my painting I have expressed to all of us how vibrant it looked when God commanded, “Let There Be Light” and light appeared.

Lainey Morrow – I wonder what it would have been like to see God’s original creation, and often, I visualize how wonderful it must have been for God Most High to call it “good.” “First Sun on Water” shows how the water must have shimmered as the sun’s fiery rays skipped across its surface for the first time. To convey warmth and new life I used vivid color and thick brush strokes. The rich, textured paint imitates the water’s movement, and I can touch it, as if I’m there seeing it for myself.

Earl J. Morris, IV – With my painting, I tried to capture the moment in time when Eve was making the biggest choice of mankind. I thought that the alternating black and white lines added to the dramatic effect of the painting. I also believe that the look in Eve’s eyes adds to the importance of the decision she is about to make. I hope you enjoy my painting!
Nowhere to Hide

Holly Moore – Ever since the garden, mankind has been searching for cover. Painfully aware of our guilt, our sin and our shame, we search for dark corners within ourselves in which to store the most grotesque betrayals of our humanity. We fear exposure so we hide, keep secrets; sew together some semblance of dignity to cover our naked inadequacy. God looks down upon us and says our costly rags and our best-laid plans are nothing but fig leaves to Him. The only cover to be found is in the blood that stained the torn rags of our Savior. With grace He wipes away our sin, covers us with His blood and beckons us out into the light.

Mitzi Miller – Once sin entered our world, Jesus became our only hope for eternal life with our Father. The black on the cross represents our sin, woven into each and every one of us from birth. The red signifies Jesus’ blood, flowing from the cross which covers all our sins and washes us clean. The gleaming cross in the center is God’s perfect gift of mercy and grace. He sacrificed His own son for us. We all have to choose. Will we accept or reject this undeserved gift?
Betrothed

Arlette Miller – The “Betrothed” inscription is taken from Genesis 2:22, “…the Lord God fashioned…a woman…and brought her to the man.” The painting depicts Adam in the Garden of Eden with Eve (fashioned while he slept by the Ultimate Provider, who saw Adam’s need for companionship and met it).
Bereft

Arlette Miller – The “Bereft” inscription is taken from Genesis 3:23, “…the Lord God sent him out of the garden…to cultivate the ground from which he was taken.” The painting depicts Adam and Eve exiled from the Perfect Garden, condemned to “…toil…(and) sweat…till you return to the ground from (which) you were taken.” (Genesis 3:17-19) All is not lost, however, for on the far horizon is the Cross of Christ, where God’s provision for man’s redemption was effected.

Barbara Middleton – “In the Beginning” – - a large blank sheet of paper, watercolors, and brushes. As an artist I had those tools and more, plus images in my mind from words and pictures of others who have tried to convey the concept of creation. It would be impossible for me to create something from nothing. Watercolor often develops in unanticipated ways, as did this painting. To me, there is a spirituality about it which, perhaps, in some small way may evoke an appreciation of the awesomeness and magnificence of God’s creation.

Rachel Mercer – When I look at the world that God has created for us to live I see a God who loves variety and is the ultimate artist. With every sunrise, sunset, and climate zone we marvel at all that He has created. Thinking of everything even to the smallest detail God’s creation is so beautiful it can hardly be captured by any medium. I chose to paint a tropical setting as it may have appeared during the days of creation. Untouched, marvelous, cool rushing fountains that sprung up from the earth that provided the purest of water for all of God’s creatures to enjoy.

Betty Dortch McMath – God created man and woman to reflect in glorified quality, God’s image. This creation unfolds spiritual ideas as God’s likeness and the sons and daughters of God in loving harmony.

Ellan McKenzie – As with the Earth in the beginning, our lives today are dark, in a formless void – until God lights our lives with His Holy Spirit and His presence fills our worldly existence with the blessings of His creations in the promise of each new day’s beginning.
