The Hand-Off

Suzanne Waggoner – “The Hand-Off” illustrates the final few seconds before the hammer hits to complete an eternal change. The suspended fruit is hovering between Eve’s hand and Adam’s. The serpent of strong persuasion has bound and fettered their wrists with its heavy coils. Only the illuminated fruit moves in the space between the innocent, opened, palms…you can almost hear the countdown, “10-9-8-7-6”, until Adam also eats the fruit himself.

Alex Vandiver – My piece of artwork was inspired by many things. The main inspiration of my artwork came from thinking about how beautiful and colorful our world is, and how thankful we should be for God and his putting us in it.
The Tree of Knowledge

Victor Valla – Adam and Eve are depicted in a rather a more sinister setting. They overlook the vast valley at the suggested confluence of several rivers in an extraordinary vista. They have approached the tree they are forbidden to touch, the sky has become dark and they are in peril. It is evidently not an easy place to reach and they stand at the edge of a precipice. The tree stands not on a mound of rich soil, but rather seems connected to the earth in a most unusual fashion—surrounding large boulders and baring it structural root system. The warning that had come from God is clear, but they are intent on examining this tree more fully.
The Temptation by the Serpent

Victor Valla – A sinister and evil dragon-like serpent (perhaps not literally, but certainly figuratively), has emerged. The eyes of Adam and Eve have become opened to their nakedness, as Eve has evidently already tasted of the “Apple” and has offered it to Adam. They are clothed in fig-leaf garments. They are furtively glancing about as they hide by the tree, and they have seemingly sunk into the very rocks on which they had stood previously, an allusion to the abyss of sin into which they have chosen to fall by defying their Creator. The humans have defied the warnings and know that a price will soon have to be paid. They stand trembling in fear.
Creation of Heaven and Earth

Victor Valla – This painting depicts the Creation of the Cosmos and of the Earth. A misty haze lies atop the vast waters of the earth and separates the painting into that which is above (space) and that which is below (land). As with all of these in the series, the circle is divided or referenced to underscore the message of the biblical texts. In the lower half, creatures of the sea, the land and the air, as well as man and woman, are shown—some in and near the oceans. The upper half shows the sun emerging through the cosmic dust, and the moon and stars are also introduced to suggest the heavenly elements of the firmament.
The Fall of Man

Victor Valla – God has come to Adam and Eve and shown both his sorrow and his anger. But rather than destroy them, he casts them out of the Garden. He clothes them in garments of animal skins, and he places two Seraphim, monstrous and fearsome winged beings, to guard the gates to the Garden from their entry, and he tells them that he will provide for them a cursed existence in the future. Eve now represents all womankinds. She is perpetuates new life for all future generations. As a mother, she will be forced to bear the pains of childbirth. Adam is also cursed for his sin by having to till the earth through great effort to survive and to feed his family.
Seasons of Time

Jaclyn Ulmer – My inspiration from my Mustard Tree project was that I wanted to do something different than everyone else, and I thought that the seasons were different but still pertained to Genesis in a way with God’s creation. I also thought that by writing the first chapter of Genesis and scattering the words around that it would add something to the painting.

Emilee Turner – “…cursed is the ground for your sake. In toil you will eat of it all the days of your life. Thorns also and thistles will it bring for to you; and you will eat the herb of the field…until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken. For you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” Genesis 3:17-19
The farmer is soon to be a memory – a man who works the field that produces the food on the table for the daily meal.
Judgment and Hope

Sue Tucker – Genesis 3 is exciting to me. It is a strong story about the choices mankind makes after His creation. The choice made was disobedience and the sin of pride. After that comes the judgment. The promise of a hard life filled with thorns! But in verse 15 comes a glimmer of hope. There is a promise of one to come who will overcome the evil one. Although the “tree of life” is sealed off, the promise of the cross is implied. Yes, we still have the thorns and thistles with which we must deal, but our hope, as revealed by the Holy Spirit, is so much greater! That is what I have tried to convey in my painting.
God’s Palette

Dan R. Thornhill – The Trinity is represented in this painting by the tall figure on the left (Christ), the bird-like figure center-right (Holy Spirit), and the figure above the bird-like figure with arms outstretched (God the Father). The figure between them represents man. The vertical structure on the right of Christ is the cross. The cross shape changed into a bridge-like structure during the painting process. Christ is our bridge – our Mediator. God is the Creator – the Artist. Man is created in the image of God – man can be creative. There are seven colors in the palette representing seven days of creation.

Larry Thompson – Balance between contradicting elements is evident in many of my works. Be it contrast in light and dark, the illusion of space contradicted by the flatness of the text, and the grey area between realism and abstraction, bringing together competing visual elements in a composition helps create a retinal and conceptual tension that I hope keeps the viewer interested. I hope the conceptual idea of hope and redemption adds to the layering of contrasting elements. The icons of the cross and trinity, representing light and hope, piercing the dark storm clouds, and bringing hope to a stormy world.
The Faces of Sin
Art Medium: Pastel

Linda S. Taylor – This pastel represents the first of Satan’s deceptions against God through mankind. Genesis 3:7 says: “Then the eyes of both of them were opened and they realized they were naked.” The faces of Adam and Eve are looking down due to the shame they felt upon the realization of their nakedness. Satan’s deception is represented through the serpent. The tree symbolizes the knowledge of good and evil. The black shows the darkness of sin. Finally, the mirrors were used to reflect my own sin against God.

Patricia Talley – I feel the universe including our solar system was a beautiful unfolding of God’s infinite LOVE for mankind and provides a place to live including the atmosphere, land, and water. Everything is formed in very precise shapes, forms, and endless beauty. Everywhere is perfection and unending beauty and goodness.

Heike Talbert – Eve was created by a loving God in his image, to perfectly compliment Adam. The beauty of complexity of human creation points to an omnipotent God.
